Ground vs. Ground Ground vs. Standing
A natural response for most people in this position is to panic and immediately try to scamper to one's feet.  This can cause the officer to place themselves at greater risk in a number of ways, some of which are turning away from the attacker or being caught by a follow-up attack.  They may also immediately try to draw their side arm without the proper time or position.  This area will cover proper ways to return to standing, establishing a guard, and establishing an “action position”, a position from which the officer can effectively engage the attacker.

Ground vs. Weapon
Although it is not necessary, officers should first participate in the Weapon Defense Tactic portion of our Necessary Force Training program

Weapon Defense Tactics

Three Categories of Close Quarter Weapon Confrontations

 Edge-pointed weapons · Blunt Objects · Firearms
The methods and techniques instructed in this portion of our program are based on previously mentioned Mixed Martial Arts Fighting Systems, Weapon Combat Tactics, and Principles of Self-Defense, refined to comply with proper use of force procedures. During this course, officers will be exposed to the dangers associated with each weapon when in the hands of a highly skilled attacker.  Officers, will learn both standing and ground position.

Although we believe all officers should receive the same level of training, the system can be specialized for officer’s charged with crisis or terrorist response. Situations were it has been predetermined deadly or lethal force is appropriate.
As an additional area of instruction, we suggest officers receive updated training in the use of equipment (including baton of stick) in the three areas of instruction.  Within all areas of our program, officers will learn to avoid attacks and create space in order to place the actor in firing position. We will also cover protecting the side arm during all confrontations. Instructor certification available
